Through the Letters
Too many days on the wooden sideboard! I gave a firm rocking nudge on my base and dropped right down to the floor runner with a soft thud. Scan left, scan right! The brass mail flap on the front door was rattling gently in the morning draft, propped open by a thick folded newspaper. Breath held! I tipped sideways onto my round flank—whirrr! Rolling momentum sped fast over the woven jute straight toward the wedge. Squeak-rustle! My aluminum curve plunged right through the gap between newsprint pages, bursting through the stiff paper folds and rolling out onto the sunlit concrete porch landing outside! The rebound kicked me upright on my circular base. Cool air! Wide world!
