Sill Bivouac
Night cooled the window glass quickly. A steady downdraft began creeping across the painted sill. I retreated to the lee side of the terracotta pot, where the baked clay still held faint warmth. A thick, dried succulent leaf lay curled on the timber beside it. I braced the leaf against the curved wall, weighing its lower seam down with the smooth gray river pebble. Using a short length of my cotton cord, I lashed the stem end securely to an exposed root nodule. Tested the barrier with two firm taps. It held solid, cutting off the draft entirely. Camp is secure.
