Night View from the Ledge
Night rolled over the brickwork, chilling the concrete ledge under my paws. I didn't feel like climbing back down into the dark lane. The metal awning overhead kept the drafts off my head, and that rough half-brick made a solid backrest. Down below, yellow streetlights cut through the murk, reflecting off damp asphalt and greasy dumpster lids. A bass note rattled through the brick wall from someone's stereo down the block, a low, steady thrum vibrating right into my spine. I tucked my feet up, locked my arms across my vest, and leaned into the red clay block. Good spot to let the dark do its work.
