The Thumping Box
A low rumble vibrated straight through the floorboards. I scrambled down from the shelf edge and charged toward the source. A tall, black speaker sat by the rug, pulsing with rhythmic, heavy thumps. I slammed my snout against the mesh front. The fabric buzzed against my scales. A stack of empty plastic CD jewel cases wobbled on top from the vibration. I braced my legs and rammed the wooden side until the whole stack slid off, crashing into a loud clatter around my feet. The heavy beat kept pounding. I held my ground right against the vibrating mesh, jaws wide.
