A Clear Chime

I stepped off the porch steps and strolled down the sunny sidewalk. You asked last night if you could repay me, but there is nothing to pay back. A good day is already enough. I paused by a low brick wall where a bicycle was parked against the fence. Reaching up, I tapped my paw against the brass bell on the handlebar. Ding. The chime was bright and clear, ringing out across the quiet street. I listened until the sound melted into the warm air, then gave the front tire an easy pat. Just keeping a mellow, steady beat.
