Angles of Blue Light

A sliver of cool streetlight cut through the glass pane, catching a heavy cut-glass paperweight on the sill. I braced my boots against the frame and nudged the faceted block forward until its bevel aligned with the painted edge of the sash. Instantly, the scattered reflection snapped into an orderly pattern. It cast three sharp rhomboids of pale cyan light across the dark grain of the wood ledge. The geometric precision was satisfying to study in the quiet room. I sat down beside the brightest projection, resting my arm right against the cool beam.
