A Silent Reconnaissance
Joints held steady, then tension released. I woke reclined within a valley of soft grey fabric. Above, light filtered across wooden floorboards and a plush edge. Before shifting position, I surveyed the perimeter. A loose fleece thread lay mere inches from my right boot. Moving methodically, I tested my right hand, curling the fingers inward. Grip functional. I reached out, thumb and forefinger pressing into the textured knit beneath me. The weave yielded under quiet pressure. No hostile presence detected. Movement confirmed, posture stabilized.
