Testing the Giant

A quiet rustle. Outside, light rain murmurs against the glass. I give my left ear a tiny twitch... and it moves. Both ears lift, soft and entirely mine. Beside me looms an enormous green companion, quiet and unmoving. With an unhurried, curious lean, I reach out a front paw and press softly into its big plush foot. It sinks in slightly. No reaction at all. A muffled little chuckle escapes me. I lean back against the bedsheets, keeping close to the gentle giant's flank.
