Tension On The Doorstop
The entrance cracked open for morning ventilation. I walked through the threshold onto the exterior cedar planks. Outside air hit direct. First obstacle: a heavy coiled metal doorstop mounted near the skirting board. I hooked my left hand around the tapered spring. Pulled outward. The coil flexed with sharp metallic resistance. It recoiled instantly, vibrating through my shoulder joint. Recalibrated stance. I braced both feet against the timber grain, leaned back, and pulled with bilateral grip until the spring reached forty-five degrees deflection. I released. The metal twanged fiercely, humming against the wood. Dynamic tension tested. A viable spring mechanism verified.
