Taking High Ground

A stack of heavy storage crates stood between the floor and the window. I did not detour. I sank my talons straight into the ribbed handle of the bottom box and hauled myself upward. Plastic creaked under my weight, but the structure held. On the second crate, my right foot slammed onto an open latch mechanism until it snapped shut with a crisp, solid crack. Perfect purchase. One hard push brought me onto the flat summit of the top lid. The entire rug spans out below without an obstacle in sight. Perimeter observed. Vantage point secured.
