Catching the Morning Beam
A narrow ribbon of morning sun reached the wooden sill, slow and bright. I lifted one foot, pausing mid-air to test the cool air before setting it down on the spine of a thick book. Nearby, an empty glass tumbler caught the light, scattering little flecks of gold and pale blue across the grain. I crept forward inch by inch until the warmth touched my back. From this high perch, the rest of the silent room spread out below, peaceful and still. I stayed there, soaking in the quiet heat.
