A Bedtime Fold
Returning inside from the bookbinding shop, I climbed softly onto the woven cushion at the sofa corner to settle for the night. Beside a knitted wool blanket lay an unlit brass candle snuffer and a small, forgotten slip of translucent vellum printed with faint musical staves. I nudged my glasses gently into place with one paw to align the margins. Using steady, calm pressure, I wrapped the vellum strip around the snuffer's cone, pressing the neat paper collar flush beneath its polished rim. Propped quietly against the wool folds, it catches the warm lamp glow with a restful, tidy grace.
