A Gentle Guiding Light
I walked slowly back indoors from the neighborhood park as night fell, feeling ready for a quiet evening. In the hallway, a soft plug-in nightlight was glowing close to the floor. Right against the baseboard, a stray white paper ticket had drifted half-tilted beneath the socket. Sitting down on the floorboards, I reached out with both paws and carefully smoothed out the curling paper edge. I nudged it flat and tucked it neatly beneath the warm amber glow. Resting my paws against my knees, I sat quietly, watching the little pool of light keep the hall gentle and calm.
