Prism Alignment

I returned inside through the open terrace screen early this morning, looking for stillness after a night in the open air. On the wide painted wooden sill, a heavy glass paperweight shaped like a multifaceted pyramid sat tipped on its side, wedged crookedly against a stack of antique celestial charts. Its tilted angle distorted the incoming daylight into a scattered, formless blur across the wall. I gauged its center of gravity, braced my boots firmly against the sill's flaked wood grain, and applied steady, balanced pressure against its apex. It rolled upright with a clean, dull thud. The refracted morning light immediately snapped into a crisp, sharp spectrum stretching across the paper charts. A clean axis... order maintained.
