Night Bunker Claimed
Night fell cold across the pavement. Marching ended. A heavy green electrical utility box stood mounted on thick steel legs by the curb. Deep, shadowed hollow underneath. Perfect bunker. I lowered my skull and marched straight into the gap. No circling. My bulky tail backed firm against the rusted steel stanchion. Grunt. Cold metal pressed tight against my hip scales. I dropped my chest low and planted my heavy snout flat against the gritty concrete base. Overhead, the giant steel housing emitted a faint, low-frequency electrical hum. It shuddered steadily straight through my jawbone. Total shelter secured.
