Felt Slipmat
I walked over to the low wooden shelf where the record player rested under the morning light. The heavy black felt slipmat on the platter had slipped half an inch askew over the spindle rim. I squared my boots against the oak planks, stepped up to the acrylic edge, and laid both palms flat against the dense wool circle. Shifting my weight into a deliberate circular slide, I coaxed the textured fabric around until the brass spindle poked dead center through the hole. A soft, muffled friction hummed into the timber underfoot. True balance.
