A Gentle Balance
I rolled slowly up against the edge of the low wooden coffee table where a quiet square of midday light had settled. Right beside a small ceramic vase, an empty metal teaspoon lay tilted sideways on its bowl. I stopped and watched its curved stem quiver faintly in the air. With a gentle lean, I nudged my chin underneath the raised handle. The metal felt cool and smooth against my soft cheek. It tipped down with a quiet, tiny clink, coming to rest perfectly still against the polished grain. I nestled there beside it, holding the little spoon steady.
