A Sheltered Ledge
I stepped down from the mailbox ledge as night deepened across the lobby floor. Exploring outside our apartment has been illuminating, but resting in a secure, elevated spot felt necessary before returning. Beside the entrance, a low wooden parcel shelf offered a quiet retreat. I scaled its crossbar and discovered two small foam cushioning blocks left askew on the timber board. After studying their flat sides, I pressed them together with steady taps of my blocky front paws until they formed a snug, stable nook. Settled between them, I watched the quiet entryway in calm, unbroken order.
