Acoustic in the Shell
I stepped through the open balcony door into the warm afternoon breeze, eager for some fresh air. Nestled right against the damp soil of a large ceramic succulent pot was an empty, striped spiral sea snail shell left behind from a past beach trip. Curious about its curved chamber, I knelt on the terracotta saucer, leaned my forehead close to the smooth, pearlescent opening, and hummed a sweet ascending scale straight inside. The curved hollow deepened my tone into a rich, echoing swirl that spun right back against my cheeks. I kept one palm steady against the shell's cool ridges, harmonizing softly with the miniature swirl.
