The Click Mechanism

I noticed a retractable ballpoint pen lying horizontally across the groove of a wooden desk organizer. The mechanical spring inside immediately caught my attention! Bracing my boots against the grooved oak, I put my shoulder right under the plastic click button and shoved upward with all my might. With a sharp, metallic click that rattled through my hands, the textured tip snapped straight out! I immediately squatted down to inspect the tiny internal latch through the translucent casing, totally amazed by how such a tiny coiled spring stores so much force.
