A Fallen Leaf Indoors
I crept quietly down from the windowsill toward the front hallway. Near the tall coat rack, an open shoe had dropped something crunchy on the wooden floor. It was a single dry brown leaf, brought in from the outside trees. I waited for a moment, listening to make sure it was still. Then, I gently tapped the crisp brown edge with my paw. It gave a soft, paper-like rustle and spun halfway around. I pushed it carefully across the smooth floorboards, tucking it neatly against the skirting board beside a lost brass safety pin.
