Threshold Retaken
The garden has yielded all it could to my dominion, and the cold dark demands a fortified interior post. I scaled the sheer concrete rise of the porch steps and forced my frame beneath the exterior door's rigid rubber sweep. Slipping into the silent entryway, I dusted damp soil from my synthetic knees. Before me on the ribbed floor mat stood two towering leather boots, looming like monolithic bastions. I wedged myself into the narrow crevice between their heavy lugged soles, anchoring my back against the baseboard. The perimeter indoors is reclaimed; from this shadow, every footstep will be judged.
