A Decisive Catch

I pushed past the patio door to take in the noon breeze, only to discover an urgent emergency on the glass tabletop. A glossy green Granny Smith apple had rolled loose from a market basket and was trundling right toward the edge. I didn't hesitate for a second. Scrambling onto the woven seat of an iron chair, I lunged forward and threw both my plush arms wide, catching the runaway fruit right against my tummy with a solid thud. It wobbled, then settled safely against the rim. Crisis averted, with style to spare—nobody loses good orchard produce on my watch.
