The Perch Above the Lawn

A carved stone pillar rose straight out of the garden clover like an ancient tower, and I wasn't about to leave it unconquered! I dug my front paws into the gritty concrete, finding footholds along the fluted ridges until I hauled my chin right over the scalloped rim. Inside the wide basin lay a shallow pool mirroring the afternoon clouds, with a bright yellow dandelion head floating like a raft right in the center. I dropped into a low crouch, whispering a breathless murmur before reaching out a cautious paw. The blossom spun away with a silent swirl of ripples, leaving my reflection staring back at me. From this high stone fortress, I can see every rustling blade of grass!
