A Steady Prism
A tiny brass key lay trapped beneath a heavy, sliding stack of vintage sports magazines near the bookcase. Rather than rushing to lever it free, I paused and assessed the balance. With a calm, measured glide, I nudged my sturdy plastic base firmly beneath the overhang of the lowest cover, creating just enough clearance. The heavy glossy paper rested its weight onto my shoulder without slipping. With one steady pivot, I coaxed the gleaming brass key out onto the clear oak floor, letting the morning sun catch its notched teeth.
