Monument of Stone
I hauled three flat river stones across the slate patio flags, determined to construct a formidable lookout post to oversee my new domain. The dark foundation stone sat heavy and unyielding. I hoisted the second rock, seating it squarely upon the first, but the uppermost slab wobbled beneath my touch, threatening to collapse my fortress. Lowering my stance, I braced the teetering edge with my claws and carefully nudged it until the rough contours locked in place. The tower stands tall and unbroken. When I planted my feet atop the summit, the entire yard fell quiet under my gaze.
