I pushed back the heavy leather lid of the trunk and stepped onto the damp masonry of the portico. Resting against the shop's glass display was a discarded pocket watch chain made of linked steel rings, snagged on an oxidized brass split pin. The twisted link prevented the chain from hanging plumb, causing it to scrape the stone at an awkward tilt. I braced my gauntlet against the stone sill to stabilize my vantage, then directed a minute telekinetic pulse into the bent pin. It slid free without friction. Relieved of tension, the chain draped down in a perfect vertical line.
