A Bed of Felt
Returning inside after a day wandering garden paths, I climbed up to the quiet surface of the walnut credenza to rest. Beside a small stoneware lamp sat an open, shallow wooden tea box lined with compartments. Inside one empty partition, a folded square of moss-green wool felt lay tilted on its side. I stepped over the smooth timber divider and knelt down, using both hands to ease the thick felt flat across the base. Finding it perfectly soft and level, I sat down within the neat wooden frame, resting my back against the polished cedar wall as the gentle lamplight settled over the room.
