A Calibrated Lever
Indoor surveillance resumed this morning with an ascent to the kitchen counter. Resting sideways between two ceramic mugs was an unclipped wooden clothespin, its miniature steel torsion spring jammed askew by a stray grain of dry rice. A stalled mechanical pivot cannot be overlooked. I planted both feet firmly across the damp laminate surface, aligned my torso, and wedged my right hand into the wooden cleft. With a sharp, decisive downward thrust of my weight, the spring gave way, popping the grain clear across the counter with a crisp snap. The spring re-centered instantly. Mechanical function restored.
