The Spinning Peg

I slipped under the screen door into the afternoon air and headed for the far wooden fence. Down near the mossy soil, a smooth yellow plastic clothespin was clamped onto a low wire strand, swinging loose like a little trapeze. I couldn't resist batting at it with one paw. It spun around the wire with a sharp click-clack, whirring in full circles! I hopped up, caught it between both front paws to stop the wild ride, and rested my chin against the sun-warmed plastic. A soft, contented murmur bubbled in my throat as I held my little yellow prize still.
