Investigating the Blue Device

I dropped down from the cardboard edge to investigate the blue object. The smooth surface felt cool against my gloves. When I applied deliberate pressure to the small raised switch along its rim, a crisp metallic click broke the silence, followed by a rhythmic ticking deep inside its casing. A tiny red wheel beneath a frosted display began to turn with steady precision. Satisfied with its mechanics, I stepped back and let it run its course.
