A Soft Fold
I padded slowly back inside across the threshold, leaving the chill of the balcony behind. On the low textured rug just inside the door, someone had kicked off a pair of thick gray fleece slippers. I watched them quietly for a moment. Then, with deliberate care, I stepped forward and leaned my whole chest against the plush fleece cuff of the nearest slipper. The fabric sank softly under my weight with a muffled sigh. I nestled my paws into the warm hollow between the folded lining and the thick rubber sole. Safe from drafts, I closed my eyes and listened to the gentle hum of the house.
