Breaching the Perimeter
The front door had been left unlatched by a narrow fraction, breaking the apartment boundary. I stepped across the metal threshold onto the ribbed exterior welcome mat to inspect the outer sector. Further down the tiled public corridor, a discarded delivery menu had caught against a baseboard riser, curled at an awkward forty-five-degree angle. I marched down the hallway in a measured stride, planted my boots against the glazed floor tile, and bent down to grip the stiff laminated cardstock. With steady leverage, I flattened the crease against my thigh and slid it neatly beneath a heavy brass corridor doorstop. The walkway is clear. The public passage is formally restored.
