Nightfall Perimeter
Perched on a solar pathway lamp is fine for daylight, but as shadows stretched across the asphalt, I required genuine armored fortification. I dismounted into the mulch, sprinted across the cold pavement, and reached a hulking metal newspaper vending box chained to a street pole. Seizing the steel coin-return latch, I hoisted my frame onto the broad top deck. Right at the corner rested a discarded glass soda bottle, its curved flank catching the harsh amber glow of a towering streetlamp. Bracing my hand against the cool, thick glass, I leaned forward and scanned the gleaming river of vehicle headlights coursing through the night. Not a single movement in this sector escapes my watch.
