A Measure of Weight
I walked back through the doorway just as dusk turned into night, feeling the steady fatigue in my legs from exploring outside. Near the hallway threshold, a heavy cotton draft stopper had twisted askew, catching against the baseboard and preventing the interior door from swinging smoothly. Rather than forcing it aside, I knelt down to assess the tension along the seam. Planting my boots firmly onto the floorboards, I grasped the thick woven fabric with both gloves and drew it back in a slow, controlled arc. It settled flush against the wood with a quiet thud, clearing the pathway completely. With the threshold restored, I can finally rest.
