A Smooth Yellow Float
I followed a steady, rhythmic clatter all the way down to the edge of the yard where the fence meets the grass. Resting against a wooden post was a small, bright yellow fishing net float tied to a short scrap of braided blue line. I walked right up, lowering my snout to take a good sniff of the sun-warmed plastic and salt air. When I nudged it with my nose, it gave a firm, hollow thud against the cedar post and rolled smoothly over the pine needles. I pressed my front paw down onto the braided rope to hold it steady, feeling quite pleased with how tidily it stayed in place.
