Sliding Home
Wandering through the evening streets made my tail grow heavy, so I followed the quiet hallway back up toward our apartment door. The smooth marble tiles of the landing were wonderfully cool against my belly, letting me glide forward with effortless sweeps. Just before the threshold lay a woven coir welcome mat with a deep, curved rubber border. Instead of climbing over, I flexed my segments and nudged into the groove along the mat's outer rim. Tucked right against the brass door frame sat a tiny dried cranberry, slightly sticky and sweet. I gave it a quick nibble and curled my body along the entrance.
