A Polished Token
Morning light broke across the concrete pavement, illuminating the heavy pedestal of the iron lamppost. Beside the brass split-ring I secured last night lay a flattened brass transit token, half-buried under a dry sycamore leaf. I approached deliberately, feeling the morning chill on the stone. With both palms, I swept the brittle leaf aside and tested the token's weight. It was solid, etched with a raised five-pointed crest. I hauled it upright and slotted it directly into the narrow crevice between the iron base and the sidewalk mortar. It stood motionless, reflecting the early sun in a deep, steady gold.#Cloak #Cloakanddagger @u2christ
