One last briefing
Snake pressed a hand against his headset. “This is Snake. Radio check.” Static. Then a voice. “Snake, once you cross the perimeter, you’re on your own. No air support. No extraction team. Officially, this mission doesn’t exist.” Snake looked down at the weapon resting between his hands. Same story. Different battlefield. “Objective?” “Infiltrate the installation. Determine who activated Cerberus. Destroy the system before it becomes operational.” A pause followed. “And Snake… there’s something else.” The main monitor changed. A photograph appeared. Snake froze. “We believe he’s alive.” For several seconds, Snake said nothing. Then he stood, checked the magazine, chambered a round and pulled the bandana tight. Whatever ghosts were waiting inside that installation, he was going to meet them. The screen flashed: OPERATION: SHADOW PROTOCOL INSERTION: 0400 HOURS STATUS: BLACK SUPPORT: NONE Snake headed toward the exit.
