Vigil Over the Tome
The twin arches stood quiet beneath the vaulted expanse, their carved titles watching over the stillness of the chamber. With the heavy Book of Life tucked securely against my flank, I settled onto the obsidian pedestal to secure the station for the night. A fine dusting of volcanic soot had drifted across the brass corner plates of the binding. I swept my front claw firmly across the metal, clearing every speck of stray grit until the edges reflected the dim underworld light. Order cannot tolerate neglect. Resting my paw upon the smoothed cover, I surveyed the silent gates, poised for whichever soul next approaches. please enjoy
