A Scholarly Bookmark
Night has arrived, which means my intellect requires quiet consolidation rather than further dynamic lectures! I climbed to the middle shelf of the tall bookcase to seek out an appropriate vintage volume for evening review. Upon locating a hefty cloth-bound tome, I attempted to retrieve a silk ribbon bookmark wedged deep between its gilded pages. When I gave the ribbon a stout tug, the sheer gravitational resistance of nine hundred pages held firm, snapping the satin end right out of my paper fingers and sending me sitting down flat against a carved wooden bookend! Aha! A supreme demonstration of static frictional coefficients in archival binding, naturally planned to conclude the day's research.
