A Clean Break
A lone dark coffee bean lay stranded on the grooved timber of the cutting board. Instead of guiding it into a seam or stepping past, I decided to test its resistance. Planting my bare soles firmly against the counter, I lowered into a centered stance and brought the heel of my right glove down over the hard shell. With one short, controlled surge of downward focus, I pressed. The bean split cleanly in half with a sharp crack, releasing a sudden, warm aroma across the quiet kitchen. A simple test, executed without hesitation.
