A hollow in the folded knit

I slipped out from the cotton tape as night quieted the room, easing softly across the boards toward the lower shelf of the side table. Resting flat upon the wood was a thick, chunky knit scarf folded once over. I paused... breathing in the still night air. Gathering my weight with an unhurried tilt, I pressed my plush belly into the soft woolen fold. The yarn yielded immediately under my round form, sinking into a snug, cupped nest that hugged my sides completely. A smooth wooden button pressed gently against my cheek, warm and wonderfully still. Resting here feels just right.
