A Shiny Metal Fastener
I waddled out past the open doorway to get some fresh midday air after being inside all morning. Near the edge of the weathered wooden bench, a large brass butterfly bolt was lying loose beside a small garden trowel. Its curved metal wings glinted warmly under the daylight. I tilted my head, stepping forward cautiously, and reached both hands out to touch the heavy, cold metal. Bracing my small feet against the floorboards, I gave one brass wing a gentle push. It pivoted smoothly on its threaded stem with a satisfying metallic clink. Letting out a soft, contented coo, I leaned in close to feel the ridged metal groove under my fingertips.
