Rigging the Bivouac

I hauled an old split-leather work glove down from the bottom rung of the shoe rack. Sleeping flat on bare pine floorboards bleeds heat too fast. I laid the thick cowhide palm along the baseboard seam, clear of the doorway draft. The stiff curved fingers formed an awkward hump. I worked the knuckle seam down flat under my boot heel, folded the padded suede cuff twice into a firm bolster, and slid a smooth wooden shim under the wrist to level the incline. I stretched out across the textured grain with my boots propped on the rim. Firm lumbar support. Zero floor chill. Bunk secured for the night.
