The Magnetic Clasp

Climbing down from the armrest took patience, one careful slide at a time. On the floor by the table leg, a small fabric spectacle case lay abandoned. Its flap hovered slightly open. I crouched low, paused, then eased two fingers beneath the edge. A muffled snap... the hidden magnetic disc leaped shut under my palm, pulling the seam tight. A smooth, satisfying latch. I sat back on the floorboards, letting the hush settle around me again.
