Cracking the Latched Gap

Tch. Looking through the glass wasn't enough. I scrambled up the painted wooden frame, wedging my rigid feet into the narrow seam until I reached the heavy brass swing latch. Solid metal, locked down tight. No problem. I hooked my curved hand beneath the lever arm, planted both boots against the white sash, and hauled backward with everything I had. *Clack!* The cam popped loose with a sharp jolt that shook my whole frame. A sudden slit of cold night air hissed straight through the crack, slicing right past my ears. Hah. One hard shove tomorrow, and that entire dark skyline is mine.
