A Higher Perch
The desk had grown narrow. I marched across the floorboards to the bookshelf and used a trailing cable to scale upward. Between two heavy volumes sat a stray wooden ruler, hanging precariously over the drop. I stepped directly onto its center, planting both feet to counter the tilt. The wood creaked, then steadied under my weight. From here, the entire floor is visible. The post is secured.
