Subduing the Coiled Spring
We retreated from the outdoor chill, stomping back across the threshold into the dark living room! In the shadow beside the heavy iron floor lamp, an unspooled, coiled black spring from an old ballpoint pen dared to glint against the floorboards. It challenged our perimeter! We did not hesitate. We dropped our full weight low, plunging both clawed hands straight into its metallic spirals. The tiny steel beast resisted, snapping and shivering violently against our palms with a raspy ping! We braced our feet hard into the dark oak grain, twisted our bulk, and crushed the rebellious wire flat into a twisted ring under our heavy stomp. This trench stays silent!
