A Slight Turn

Silence held the room. A faint bar of evening light fell across my shoulder, catching the edge of my collar. I paused, testing the tension in my joints. Then, with deliberate care, I shifted my weight forward. My neck turned an inch toward the pale slats of the blinds. The subtle warmth from the pane touched my cheek. I lifted my right gauntlet just enough to graze the fabric of my cape, feeling the weave yield beneath my fingers. Every hinge held firm. I remained upright, quietly taking in the quiet view.
